Bright and vibrant our Pinot Gris has an aromatic nose of pears, lychees and exotic spices such as cinnamon and cloves. Fresh and crisp on the palate this wine shows abundant fruit weight and concentration with apples and pears combining seamlessly with more spice and some mealy, lees derived characters. Textured and full bodied this wine finishes clean and dry with good length from fresh, crisp acidity.


Handpicked in the cool of the morning our grapes are transported the same day to Marlborough where they are carefully and gently pressed to provide the purest juice possible. The majority of the juice is settled clear in stainless steel, temperature controlled tanks, while the harder pressings are put into older French barrels for fermentation with natural yeasts. Both fractions are left on their lees for up to six weeks post fermentation and undergo regular stirring to help build texture and mouthfeel. Blending of the various portions is carried out during winter and the wine is carefully filtered for bottling in spring.


The grapes for this wine are entirely sourced from our estate vineyard in the Upper Moutere sub-region of Nelson in New Zealand’s South Island. Gently rolling hills around 50 meters above sea level with very little topsoil over ancient clay soils helped us to achieve optimum ripeness in the 2010 vintage. Dry conditions throughout autumn combined with rigorous canopy management in the form of leaf plucking, shoot thinning and fruit removal at veraison all helped to provide very clean fruit in great condition. A variety of clones and rootstocks means the fruit is harvested over a range of ripeness levels from 22.4 to 25.2 Brix between the 1st and the 29th of April.
